Artist’s Statement
“Philippa Beveridge’s work has to do with the personal, with feelings, with reactions to the past, and with relics of lost associations as metaphors for memory.”

My work is concerned with time and memory: history and its associations, absence and displacement, the fleeting and transitory.
I work primarily in kiln-formed and surface-decorated glass combined with other materials and use the plasticity of the medium and its properties as a transformer of light to explore the recurring themes within my work.
Aesthetically, I draw inspiration from architectural finishes and details, both interior and exterior, rubble left over from demolition sites, carved stonework and fragments of wallpaper. My work ranges from architectural glass, to installations and sculptural one-off pieces.

Mis obras tienen como hilo conductor el tiempo y la memoria: la historia y sus asociaciones, la ausencia y el desplazamiento, lo fugaz y lo efímero.
Trabajo principalmente con el vidrio termoformado y pintado y trabajado en frío, combinado con otros materiales, y utilizo la plasticidad del medio y sus propiedades como transformador de la luz para indagar en los temas recurrentes en mi obra.
Estéticamente, me inspiro en los acabados y detalles arquitectónicos, tanto interiores como exteriores, los escombros de las construcciones y demoliciones, piedras talladas o fragmentos de papel pintado. Mis obras abarcan desde el vidrio arquitectónico y instalaciones hasta piezas únicas.

Philippa Beveridge is currently exhibiting at La Cripta del FAD (Association for Art and Design), Barcelona and at the gallery Glass Inspiration, Switzerland. She has a solo show scheduled for January 2009 at MAVA (Museum of Art in Glass), Madrid.
